Top 5 Tips To Consider When Completing Executive Level Interviews On The Gold Coast

Executive Career Advice

October 29th 2020

When interviewing executive candidates, it can be challenging to know how to extract the right information out of your potential employee to decide whether they’re the right fit for your job or business. Here are our top 5 tips to consider when conducting executive level interviews on the Gold Coast.

Consider The Type & Style Of Executive Interview

All interviews are different and depend on the level of candidate you’re interviewing. Five of the most common interview types include:

  •       Behavioural Interviews
  •       Stress Interviews
  •       Relaxed Interviews
  •       Information Gathering Interviews
  •       Panel Interviews

The style of the interview, from relaxed and casual to serious, will also determine the type of questions you ask a candidate.

Let The Candidate Sell Themselves

When conducting an executive interview, it’s essential that you let the candidate speak and sell themselves. By allowing them to speak extensively, you’ll learn a lot about their personality and their articulation level, as well as their skills, expertise and qualifications.

Don’t judge too quickly – often, a candidate that may not seem right at first may prove to be perfect after you’ve allowed them to speak freely about their experience.

Ask Open Ended Questions

When asking executive level interview questions, keep them open ended. This means asking questions that eliminate the possibility of the candidate giving a simple, ‘yes or no’ reply and encourages them to dig deeper for a detailed answer.

Some great examples of open ended interview questions for executives include:

  •       Why do you want to work for our company?
  •       If hired, what would you prioritise during the first 3 months?
  •       Why did you leave your previous job position?
  •       What do you consider to be your weakest skills?

·        Tell me something about yourself that isn’t on your CV

Don’t Cut Them Off

While you don’t want to let a candidate talk on and on, it’s important that you don’t cut them off. Let them speak freely and gently guide the conversation to keep it on track and get the answers you need.

Find The Right Fit

Ultimately, you are always looking for the perfect fit, regardless of the type of interview. A suitable executive candidate needs to not only align with the required skills, experience and qualifications but also the culture of the business. The type of questions you ask and the manner in which you ask them, will determine whether you find the right fit for your company.
