How to Get the Most out of your Recruitment Consultant
Much has been written over the years about the good and bad about using a recruitment consultant and it is sometimes not easy to understand just what roles a candidate and a consultant play in this quite often difficult time. Here are some guidelines to make sure you get the very best chance of being on the short list.
Firstly and most importantly if you’re are for example an Accountant don’t just apply for every job that has the word Accountant in it, read an advertisement carefully and then make sure you address what you feel are the key ‘must haves’.
Don’t have your confidential resume with a multitude of agencies, choose wisely making sure that the consultant knows exactly what you are looking for and then nobody wastes each others time.
Know when to speak to your consultant, don’t be calling them every day asking why they haven’t found you a job yet. Ask the consultant when contact is appropriate and then make sure you either call or email.
After an interview has been arranged with a company show your consultant your genuineness by asking pertinent questions about the job, company, people etc.
Always call after your interview with the company. A tell tale sign of how excited you are from a recruiter’s point of view is how quickly you call back after the meeting whether it be good or bad.
Always ask your consultant for feedback on performance this is sometimes a hard one to ask but can prove to be beneficial for all parties.
“Reality checks” we all talk about them but as a person looking to get the best possible job, be realistic about your expectations don’t be expecting to get a
15-20K increase just for turning up.
Lastly but no less important is thanking your consultant for helping them. You would be surprised just how much extra service you will receive from your recruiter if you offer a warm thanks for their efforts.
